Excavation was halted in August New York State Department of Health has determined that this summer s excavation at Flint Park doesn’t cause a health risk beyond the immediate work area. While the State requires more testing and other precautions when work resumes, the state says the park is otherwise as safe as it was before the work began. Work on Fields A B at Flint Park was halted in August when the DEC issued a Notice of Violation to the Village of Larchmont because part of the park sits on a capped landfill. Soil tests indicated some of the soil unearthed was contaminated with lead and other chemicals. The evaluation was conducted by the Risk Assessment Section of the Bureau of Toxic Substance Assessment at the request of a concerned resident. It concludes : Direct exposure to the excavated area and soil samples by young children or visitors is unlikely due to fencing around the excavated area and a roadway running between the excavated area and more attractive park features.
